Good Life Befrienders

FAQ

The GLBF Programme was started to ensure that youths with disabilities remain meaningfully engaged and connected in the community. The programme does this by empowering befrienders to build strong and lasting relationships with youths with disabilities. Each youth is typically paired with two  befrienders. 2. You can expect to hear from us within 5 working days to schedule for a befriender interview.
  3. Once you have passed the interview and reference check, you will be matched with a suitable youth buddy and a befriending partner. The matching process may take up to a month.
  4. Upon a successful match, your confirmed youth buddy match and an agreement will be emailed to you.
  5. Welcome to the GLBF community!

Yes, grab a friend to be a GLBF together with you! Just ensure that you indicate your friend’s first and last name in the relevant field of your sign up form.

  1. Completion of 10 befriending sessions with your matched youth buddy over the course of 1 year is required.
    • The sessions are arranged based on the schedules of yourself, befriending partner and youth buddy.
    • Befrienders are encouraged to arrange befriending sessions at least once a month.
  2. Complete the befrienders e-learning training modules.

The first three befriending sessions will be guided by our caseworkers. For the remaining sessions, befriender pairs are expected to independently initiate and facilitate regular befriending sessions among themselves, through liaising with their youth buddy’s caregiver. Befriender pairs may reach out to their caseworker for support at any point of the befriending journey.

Yes, we will provide a self-paced e-learning training for you to equip yourself on the basic understanding of the GLBF programme, communication methods, and inclusion.

A customised briefing will also be conducted by our caseworker to help you understand your youth buddy’s profile, and how you can plan for your sessions.

At the beginning of the programme, it is expected that you are present at least for the first session to guide befrienders on how to communicate with your child. Subsequently, depending on your comfort level and level of trust with the befrienders, you may allow befrienders more autonomy in taking your child out. As the point of contact, you are also expected to communicate regularly with caseworkers and/or befrienders to schedule the befriending sessions.

No, this is a free programme. Befrienders are volunteers who generously dedicate their time and support without any financial compensation.
