Using Augmentative and
Alternative Communication (AAC):

Bring attention to interesting topics and comment on them together.

Wait up to 45 seconds to allow the youth to process what has been said, and claim their turn in the conversation.

Be expressive and highlight new vocabulary.

More comments, less questions

Try not to ask too many questions! This creates an expectation for the youth to answer and may be overwhelming for them. Instead, comment on your observations during an activity.
